What is the impact of importing a duplicate record?
For example if a user already exists in the system and I accidentally include them on the import spreadsheet a second time. Does it create 2 entries, does it update/merge new information, or does it ignore any rows that include the primary key? Also, what is the primary key for a user, their email address?
When an import is conducted, the system compares the existing records against the records in the import file. If the match key data field contains matching information between the template and the existing records, the system will only update the matching record with any new information in the template.
In the case of contact records, such as individuals, email addresses are used as the match key. If an existing individual record contains the email address "sample@streamlinksoftware.com" and a record in your template also contains an individual with the email address "sample@streamlinksoftware.com", the system will not create two separate individual records with that email address. If the matching record found in the template contains new or updated information, the import will overwrite the existing record with the data in the import fie.
